The Rohnerville Air Attack Base was established in 1964 and is located on the east end of the Rohnerville Airport near the City of Fortuna.

Rohnerville responds to an average of 80-100 calls per year.  Staff at Rohnerville consists of one battalion chief, two fire captains, two base managers, and five firefighters.

Rohnerville operates one OV-10 Bronco, A120, and one S-2T, T96, airtanker.  The base also has a mixing system that provides for a pre-measured amount of water and dry powder retardant.  It is capable of mixing up to 8,000 gallons of fire retardant per hour in addition to the 50,000 gallons of wet storage.  Rohnerville has a possible peak output of 80,000 gallons of retardant each day.The air base delivers an average of 200,000 gallons of fire retardant to fires in the north coast area each year.

The base’s immediate response area covers nearly 4 million acres including all of Humboldt County and portions of Del Norte, Siskiyou, Trinity and Mendocino counties and  also includes parts of the Six Rivers National Forest.
